Monitoring Gharials from the Skies: A Drone Survey

In an effort to conserve the critically endangered gharial, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), in partnership with Geovation Nepal, launched an innovative project to monitor these unique crocodilian species using advanced aerial technology. The project focused on the East Rapti River within Chitwan National Park, a crucial habitat for the gharial, which is one of the last refuges for this species in the wild.

Our team at Geovation Nepal conducted an extensive aerial survey of gharials in their natural habitat using drone technology. This high-tech approach allowed us to gather detailed data and monitor the gharial population effectively, supporting conservation efforts and helping protect these distinctive reptiles.
